Fantasy Baseball Starting Pitchers: Studs, Duds, and Sleepers-May 15, 2015
It’s the start of another great baseball weekend today with most of the action tonight under the lights. There is one afternoon game which takes place in Chicago where the Cubs look to keep rolling as the Pirates visit Wrigley. If your league locks at first pitch of the first game, you’ll need to make your roster moves before the 2:20 start time, so make sure to get your fantasy baseball starting pitchers set up for success.

To help you know who to target, who to avoid, and who could potentially offer some great value, check out my studs, duds, and sleepers on the following slides. On this slide, there are three fantasy baseball studs who will cost you big money in daily fantasy baseball, but who should be able to deliver based on matchup and current form. If you own these players in season-long formats, they are must-starts. On the next slide, you’ll find three options I’d recommend by-passing today based on their matchup and their recent struggles. On the final slide of this post, you’ll find my favorite three sleeper starting pitchers for today. If you are planning to hit the waiver wire in search of a streaming starting pitcher or just looking to save some cash to invest in your lineup for daily league play, those three options are a great place to start.

Let’s jump right in to a quick breakdown of today’s fantasy baseball starting pitchers:
3 Starting Pitcher Studs
1. Dallas Keuchel-Houston Astros: Keuchel and the Astros host the Blue Jays tonight after taking the series opener 6-4 last night. Keuchel has been excellent this season although he did allow a season-high four runs in his last start which came against the Angels. Keuchel’s ERA is still an exceptional 1.39 after that outing, and he has been able to pitch at least six full innings in each of his seven starts. He has allowed just eight runs on the year in 51.2 innings while holding opponents to just a .163 batting average. He’ll look to keep rolling tonight against Toronto, and is quickly emerging as the Ace of the Astros.
2. Michael Pineda-New York Yankees: The Yankees starter struck out a career-high 16 in his last start agains the Orioles allowing just one run on six hits in seven innings to improve to 5-0 on the season. Tonight, he’ll take the mound against the Royals as he continues on what quickly looks like it’s becoming his breakout season. He offers more strikeout potential than Keuchel, but he also has more potential to give up more hits and runs based on his matchup in KC tonight.
3. Bartolo Colon-New York Mets: Colon takes the mound for the Mets as they host Milwaukee trying to shake off their four-game sweep at Wrigley Field. The Brewers lineup has struggled this season which makes a good matchup for Colon as he looks to be the MLB’s first seven-game winner. He comes into this game at 6-1 with a 3.30 ERA. His WHIP is just 0.99 which shows how much he has been able to limit the opposition, and he should be set up for a win tonight against the struggling Kyle Lohse.
