3 Starting Pitcher Stay-Aways

1. Danny Salazar-Cleveland Indians: Although Salazar does offer strikeouts with 52 in his 37.2 innings this season, he’s a high-risk play tonight that I would recommend avoiding as he faces the White Sox who have hammered him in past seasons.  Salazar gave up ten runs to Chicago in his two starts last year lasting 8.2 innings.  He will give you punchouts, but he has allowed four earned runs or more in three of his last four starts, so proceed with caution.

2. Chris Tillman-Baltimore Orioles: Tillman has allowed 18 runs in 23.1 innings over his last four starts and has been hit hard in four of his seven starts this season resulting in his 6.34 ERA.  He was Baltimore’s Opening Day starter, but right now, he can be left on the waiver wire as he takes on Seattle today.

3. Matt Shoemaker-Los Angeles Angels: Shoemaker is coming off his best start or the season, but he’s in a tough matchup as he takes on Toronto tonight. His last time out he only allowed three hits and one run to the Orioles, but he had struggled throughout the season leading up to that outing.  Before that start, Shoemaker had allowed at least three runs in his previous six starts and his ERA had risen all the way to 6.61.  He comes into tonight’s start at 5.63 with a 3-3 record.  While Shoemaker showed last season that he can be fantasy relevant, I’d like to see more than one start before jumping back on board.
