3 Starting Pitcher Studs
1. Madison Bumgarner-San Francisco Giants: Bumgarner has been up and down this season, but he always seems to rise to the occasion against the Dodgers. He has faced them twice this season allowing three runs in 14.1 total innings while striking out 15. He has lasted 7+ innings in four of his last six starts, so look for another strong outing as he faces LA today at AT&T Park. The fact that he’s at home also is a good sign for Bumgarner who usually dominates by the Bay.
2. David Price-Detroit Tigers: Price has struggled a little bit recently allowing three runs or more in four of his last five starts. He has battled through it, though, going at least six innings in each of his last four. As a result he has a solid 3.40 ERA to go with his 3-1 record. He’s in a good matchup tonight against Scott Feldman who has struggled, so he should be able to pick up a win today against Houston.
3. J.A. Happ-Seattle Mariners: Happ is only owned in 35% of ESPN leagues, but I think he’s one of the three best options for tonight since he’s been such a consistent contributor for Seattle this season. He has allowed two earned runs or fewer in all but one of his starts this year. He doesn’t pile up strikeouts, but he has allowed just 15 runs in 45.1 innings resulting in a 2.98 ERA. He hasn’t gotten great run support which is why he’s only 3-1, but he should be in a good place today as the Mariners take on the Orioles.
