Blackhawks vs. Ducks Game 7: Recap and highlights (Video)
By Josh Hill
The Blackhawks vs. Ducks series came own to Game 7, but it wasn’t much of a contest beyond that.
It appears that the Chicago Blackhawks are on the cusp of becoming a dynasty, as they’re off to their third Stanley Cup Finals in five years. This comes after they disposed of the Anaheim Ducks in the Western Conference Finals on Saturday night.
Anaheim has now lost back-to-back Conference Finals series that came down to a Game 7. To boot, both Game 7’s were blowout losses, albeit this was a far lighter beating than what the Kings gave the Ducks last season.
One of the most controversial moments of the night came when Marian Hossa scored the Blackhawks’ fourth goal of the game by kicking the puck past Fredrick Andersen. It was a goal which was reviewed, but ultimately ruled a goal for the Hawks.
That was the fourth goal of the game, the first three belonged to two different players. Jonathan Toews started things off less than three minutes into the contest and followed it up with a second goal before the period was through.
The second goal of the game came near the end of the first period, and it was again Toews behind things.
Brandon Saad added to the fun in the second period to make it a 3-0 game, and it was at this point that things looked out of control.
It wasn’t long after this that Hossa kicked in his controversial goal. It wasn’t the last of the scoring in the second period though. Ryan Kessler scored the first Anaheim goal of the game in the second period, and it seemed to give the Ducks some life.
Not only was it a cool goal, but it ricocheted off Crawford’s shoulder, off the goal cam at the top of the net and off the left goal post before leaving the net. The goal was reviewed and confirmed.
The next goal would come in the third period as Corey Perry zinged one past Corey Crawford to make it a 4-2 deficit for the Ducks.
It wasn’t a lead that lasted long though, as Brent Seabrook scored the fifth goal of the night for the Blackhawks to give them a 5-2 lead — one that wouldn’t be overtaken.
Chicago should be gassed after seven intense games with the Ducks, but they looked anything but in their five goal barrage in Game 7. It’s not on to Tampa Bay for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Wednesday night, where Chicago will try to win their third title in five years.
Tampa Bay is coming off a series against the New York Rangers that went a whole seven games as well, which means they’re running on about as much gas as the Blackhawks at this point. But while the Blackhawks are gassed and headed towards their third Stanley Cup Finals in five years, the Lightning are in their second Stanley Cup Finals ever and are looking to keep their record there perfect.
One this is certain, it should be a Stanley Cup for the ages.
