Star Options

Chicago Cubs. vs Reds. Jason Hammel. 6. player. 9. Hammel hasn’t been great in day games (1-1, 4.28 ERA) but he’s been on quite a roll lately going 2-0 with a 1.84 ERA in his first two starts this month while striking out 18 in just 14.2 innings.  Hammel also had impressive May numbers going 1-1 with a 2.57 ERA and 35 K’s in 35 innings. He hasn’t faced the Reds yet this season, but I think he’s a nice under the radar option for today if you can grab him for this afternoon’s start.

vs Diamondbacks. Madison Bumgarger. 4. player. 31. Bumgarner is always on his game at AT&T Park where he and the Giants host Arizona tonight.  He’s 2-1 at home with a 2.82 ERA while holding opponents to a .209 average.  Bumgarner got knocked around a little in his last start but was excellent in May going 4-1 with a 2.61 ERA. He has beaten Arizona once this season in two starts, and I think he’s lined up for another strong home start tonight.. San Francisco Giants

3. player. 43. Pineda has had a few bumps in the road this season, but he’s been pretty solid overall as evidenced by his 7-2 record, 3.33 ERA, and 1.17 WHIP.  He has 76 strikeouts in 70.1 innings.  One of his best performances of the season came last time he faced Baltimore when he fanned 16 Orioles while allowing just one run on six hits in seven innings.. New York Yankees. @ Orioles. Michael Pineda

Los Angeles Dodgers. @ Padres. Clayton Kershaw. 2. player. 71. Kershaw dominated the Cardinals in his last outing allowing just one hit in eight innings while striking out 11.  He has an impressive 101 strikeouts in 80.1 innings and will be in the pitchers’ haven of Petco Park tonight as he takes on the Padres.  The only thing keeping him out of the top spot is his road split that shows he is 1-2 with a 4.76 ERA away from Dodger Stadium.

Felix Hernandez. 1. player. 62. Hernandez rebounded from a beating at the hands of the Yankees with a stellar two-hit outing against the Rays in which hi allowed just one run in seven innings to get his ninth win of the season.  He comes into tonight’s start 9-2 with a 2.51 ERA, and he has been especially effective on the road where he is 4-0 with a 1.82 ERA.  His matchup against the strikeout-prone Astros makes him the top pick of the day.. Seattle Mariners. @ Astros
