Sleeper Options

3. Niese had a rough stretch in May, but he’s settled down a little in June and has turned in four straight quality starts while compiling a 0-2 record and a 3.46 ERA.  He lost to the Cubs earlier this year, but since he is at home he’s a deep-league sleeper for tonight.. New York Mets. vs Cubs. Jonathon Niese. 20. player

Taylor Jungmann. 19. player. 76. Jungmann had one of his best starts of the season in his last outing holding the Mets scoreless on four hits although he only managed to go five innings.  He has been decent in his four starts with Milwaukee and comes into tonight with a 2.74 ERA. He may be in a place to steal a win tonight against the Phillies, but match up against Cole Hamels isn’t ideal.. Milwaukee Brewers. @ Phillies

Andrew Heaney. 17. player. 102. Heaney made his Angels debut Wednesday and allowed just one run on four hits in six innings to a solid Astros lineup.  Heaney will look to continue that success tonight against the Yankees as he continues to fill in for the side-lined Jered Weaver.. Los Angeles Angels. vs Yankees

61. The Reds look to take the first two games from the Twins as they give the ball to 25-year old DeSclafani tonight. He has allowed two earned runs or fewer in five of his last seven starts and has lowered his ERA to a respectable 3.35.  He doesn’t strike out a ton of batters, but he’s been good this month going 2-1 with a 3.23 ERA, so he’s a decent sleeper option to consider despite Great American’s hitter-friendly confines.. Cincinnati Reds. vs Twins. Andrew DeSclafani. 16. player

Colorado Rockies. @ Athletics. Jorge De La Rosa. 15. player. 108. De La Rosa is expected to start tonight in oakland despite battling a cut on his finger. He was forced to leave his last start early after allowing one run on four hits in five innings. His ERA for the season is still an elevated 5.15, but he’s been excellent when he’s not at Coors Field (2-1, 1.86 ERA) and much better in June (3-1, 3.90 ERA) than earlier in the season.  He’s a sneaky deep league sleeper, but getting a win over Sonny Gray is a lot to ask.

14. player. 95. Lewis has had a strong June going 3-0 with five quality starts and a 3.09 ERA.  He has had most of his success at home, but he’s a solid play on the road tonight even though he’s facing a tough Baltimore lineup.. Texas Rangers. @ Orioles. Colby Lewis

San Diego Padres. vs Mariners. Ian Kennedy. 13. player. 127. Kennedy has only allowed one earned run in each of his last three starts although he was touched for five unearned in his last outing in San Francisco. On the season he is 4-6 with a 5.09 ERA, but in June he has fared better going 2-1 with a 2.40 ERA.

New York Yankees. @ Angels. Ivan Nova. 12. player. 43. Nova looked sharp in his return from Tommy John surgery throwing 6.2 scoreless innings against the Phillies while allowing three hits and two walks and striking out just one.  He’ll face a much better lineup this time out, but there is definitely a ton of sleeper potential if you can add Nova while he’s still working his way back.

Mike Montgomery. 11. player. 62. Montgomery is coming off an impressive performance in which he struck out ten while throwing a complete game shutout against the Royals.  He has been excellent since joining the Mariners’ rotation putting up a 2.04 ERA in his five starts while going 2-2 with four quality starts. At Petco Park, he’s a great option for today.. Seattle Mariners. @ Padres
