Solid Starting Options

2. Hughes has been excellent in his last two starts allowing a total of two runs on eight hits in 16 innings. He dominated both Chicago teams, but the Reds offense showed how potent it could be in a 11-7 win last night.  Hughes has been pitching well, but Great American Ballpark is a tough place to advise playing him over the other options above him on the list despite his improving recent form.. Minnesota Twins. @ Reds. Phil Hughes. 9. player

32. Lynn has allowed a total of two runs in his last three starts spanning 18.2 innings in which he has allowed 13 hits and six walks while striking out 16.  The White Sox lineup has been a good matchup lately, so get Lynn in your lineup even though he’s taking on Chris Sale and a win may be hard to come by.. St. Louis Cardinals. vs White Sox. Lance Lynn. 8. player

96. Gray has hit a few bumps in the road in his last couple of starts allowing nine runs in just 12 innings.  He’ll look to bounce back against the Rockies tonight, and I think he’ll return to his Ace form which helped him to a 9-3 record on the season with a 2.09 ERA and a WHIP under 1.00.  Gray’s recent form makes him more risky than usual, but he’s always worth a look give his elite-level upside.. Oakland Athletics. vs Rockies. Sonny Gray. 7. player

90. Zimmermann was masterful in his last start allowing just six hits in eight scoreless innings and issuing no walks while striking out three.  He turned in those numbers against the same Braves team he’ll face tonight, so look for another good outing from Zimmermann.  He doesn’t pile up strikeouts like the other elite options and his run support has been spotty, but he has turned things around with eight quality starts in his last ten appearances. Tonight will be his fourth start of the year against Atlanta and so far he is 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA.  The only reason he isn’t in the “Star Options” section is his road splits are an unattractive 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA.. Washington Nationals. @ Braves. Jordann Zimmermann. 6. player
