Although the Colorado Rockies may not be a serious playoff contender this season, it was hard to leave stud third baseman Nolan Arenado off the list.

The 24-year-old is in just his third year, but has been nothing short of spectacular in all aspects of the game — well, besides base-stealing. Not too many games go by without a spectacular highlight play on defense by the young star, and his bat has been doing some serious work as well.

During a year in which Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez are getting off to a somewhat slow start, production-wise, Arenado is picking up the slack for a team that finds itself nine games out of first place in the NL West.

    • Arenado is hitting .292 with an impressive 24 home runs and 68 RBI. He ranks third in all of baseball in terms of home runs and first in RBI. If the Rockies were closer to first place in their division, we may be talking about Nolan as a top-three candidate for the prestigious award.

    Alas, right now he is an “honorable mention” because his team is in last place and will need to do a lot of winning in the next few months to even have a shot at a wild card.
