Kawhi Leonard, San Antonio Spurs (5 years, $90 million)

Yeah, about that whole keeping the core of the Spurs together as much as possible, this move bares a little more importance than the one involving Danny Green.

The 2014 NBA Finals MVP and reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year has earned every bit of that $90 million he’s going to get, and he’s an integral part of why this Spurs team is so good. As the stars like Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker stare the twilight of their careers in the face, Leonard has done a masterful job at stepping up when he has to and putting this team on his back.

At just 24 years of age, it’s scary to think that he really can only get better from here on out. It’s even scarier for teams in the Western Conference to think that he’ll only get better as a member of the San Antonio Spurs still. The success of this franchise isn’t dropping off anytime soon, and Kawhi Leonard is maybe the most important part of that.
