Power ranking the AL MVP candidates following Miguel Cabrera’s injury
It’s really difficult to keep Albert Pujols off this list, so I decided to give him an honorable mention. As soon as he improves his batting average, he can be upgraded to a higher spot, but for now, the 35-year-old designated hitter for the Los Angeles Angels is on the outside looking in.

Many people were declaring Albert’s career dead at the age of 35, but he had something to say about that.
After a slow start to the month of April, hitting just .208 with three homers and nine RBI, Pujols broke out over the next two months. In May, he hit .271 with eight home runs and 14 RBI, while June was his best month of the season as he hit .303 with 13 dingers and 26 RBI.
The growth of success throughout the year has been gradual, but opponents are starting to take notice and Pujols’ on-base percentage keeps on ballooning — along with his batting average.
Right now he is sitting at .265 with 24 home runs and 53 RBI. The Angels are in second place in the AL West, and if they can somehow go on a hot-streak behind another Albert Pujols surge, the MVP race could get very interesting.
