A look at the players in men’s tennis with the most Grand Slam titles.

Sunday’s final on Centre Court at the All England Lawn and Tennis Club saw a banner matchup between two of the sport’s greatest players of all time. Between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic there was a combined total of 25 Grand Slam singles titles on the grass (with nine being Wimbledon championships). Djokovic would go on to win and claim his ninth career Grand Slam and vault himself higher on the list of all-time greats.

Federer is the all-time leader in majors with a sterling 17. The number bested Pete Sampras’s 14, and for a while in his career it looked as though Federer would reach 20 or more. That is before he ran into a buzz saw named Rafael Nadal. At his peak, Nadal was like an impenetrable fortress – he covered all corners of the court, lived and died on every point, and proved a tricky left-hand matchup for many players on circuit. Beyond that, he owns the French Open with a record nine championships at Roland Garros.

Beyond that top three is Australian Roy Emerson. Emerson has two titles apiece at Wimbledon and the French and U.S. Opens. He doubled up with six titles at the Australian Open – locking down the tourney from 1963-67.

Rounding out the top-5 are Rod Laver and Bjorn Borg. Both have 11 majors, and while Laver spread his around for a career Grand Slam, Borg owned all tournaments except for the Australian. He never advanced beyond the third round of the Australian Open.

American Bill Tilden is sixth on the list, and the final player to own double digit major victories. Below is a look at every player to have won at least five Grand Slam titles over the course of his career.
