Carlos Alcaraz is 20 years old, but would he be the youngest men’s Wimbledon champion ever? Not unless he has a time machine.

As Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic do battle in the Wimbledon final, it symbolizes a possible changing of the guard among tennis greats. Novak, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer dominated the sport for so long, but with Federer retired, Nadal battling injury and Joker likely in his final years, players like Alcaraz could very well start to threaten the old guard.

Djokovic has won 23 grand slams as of this writing — that’s an impressive feat in what can only be described as the golden age of tennis. However, he didn’t win his first in 2008 when he was just 21 years old.

Who is the youngest Wimbledon champion ever?

The youngest Wimbledon champion would not be Alcaraz. In fact, he’s about three years too old to secure that mark. Boris Becker is the youngest player to ever win a Wimbledon men’s singles title, as he did so at the age of 17 in 1985. Prior to Becker, the youngest champion was Wilfred Baddeley, who did so when he was only 19. Becker is regarded as one of the best men’s singles players of all time, as he won six grand slams and Wimbledon specifically three times.

How old is Carlos Alcaraz?

As of this writing, Carlos Alcaraz just celebrated his 20th birthday, and entered the 2023 Wimbledon tournament as the No. 1 seed. Alcaraz, a spaniard himself, is often compared to Nadal, though his game is arguably more well-rounded at such a young age than Rafa. Nadal has always dominated on clay, but it took some time before he could make the transition to dominance on grass.

Alcaraz is considered one of the best young players in the sport, and perhaps the next dominant player once Djokovic and Nadal finally call it quits.
