The Special Olympics kicked off last night with the opening ceremony last night, and Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles gave a powerful speech.

The Special Olympics are underway in Los Angeles, and the opening ceremony was an event filled with stars and athletes from all corners of the world. One of the athletes who showed up at the Special Olympics was Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles.

To help kick off the event, Charles gave a passionate and heartfelt speech that didn’t leave a dry eye in the house. The running back reflected on his own disabilities that he didn’t allow to get in the way of achieving his dreams of being a Pro Bowl player in the NFL.

Here’s part of Charles powerful speech at the Special Olympics opening ceremony from last night:

He also led the athlete oath at the opening ceremony, a moment that was just as powerful as the speech that he gave.

It was a powerful moment that helped shine a light on the Special Olympics in a new way. A lot of the time, the Special Olympics are separated from the sports world as we know it, but Charles relating his own struggles to the Special Olympics helps remind us that athletes come in all shapes and sizes — and you nothing can stop you from achieving your dreams.
