21: Cleveland Indians

ACQUIRED: LHP Rob Kaminsky (from Cardinals), OF Abraham Almonte (from Padres), SS Eric Stamets (from Angels), LHP Jayson Aquino (from Pirates)

TRADED: OF Brandon Moss (to Cardinals), OF David Murphy (to Angels), LHP Mark Rzepczynski (to Padres)

When the Cleveland Indians picked up Brandon Moss from the Oakland Athletics prior to the 2015 season, all it cost them was second base prospect Joe Wendle. One can say that trade worked out pretty well for them as well, especially considering what they were able to do with Moss at the 2015 trade deadline.

By flipping Moss to the St. Louis Cardinals (and his one season of arbitration-eligibility), the Indians were able to land prized pitching prospect Rob Kaminsky from the Cardinals. St. Louis is flush with pitching prospects, so Kaminsky became somewhat expendable, but he becomes a huge addition to the Indians system. Jumping right into the #3 slot in the team’s top prospect list, Kaminsky should move quickly through the minors given his mature approach to pitching.

Furthermore, the injection of Kaminsky into a system that includes lefties Brady Aiken and Justin Sheffield could enable Cleveland to explore trades this winter for Trevor Bauer, Carlos Carrasco, or any of their other controllable pitchers. That could give the Indians some big cards to play this winter as they look to supplement some offense into the Major League squad.
