Carson Palmer-Arizona Cardinals

While most fantasy football owners see Palmer as a good pick for six or seven years ago, it’s not time to discount the veteran passer just yet. If you’re left scrambling late in your draft looking for a QB flier, Palmer is one of the best options to consider since I do think he has serious upside.

Last year, in the five games that Palmer played the whole game, he had at least 16 fantasy points (ESPN standard scoring) and averaged 18.8 per game. Only Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson, and Peyton Manning had better averages than Palmer’s if you don’t count the games where Palmer had to leave early.

Palmer is a great fit for Bruce Arians attack and while he will make mistakes and turn the ball over at times, he can definitely produce points in the vertical passing game the Cardinals use. Palmer threw for at least 249 yards and multiple touchdowns in all five of his complete games last season.

While expecting him to keep that up all season in his 14th year in the league may be a bit of a stretch, the fact that Palmer is going outside to top 20 QB’s is crazy.  If you can make the veteran your second QB or your insurance policy, he’s definitely worth a look as your draft starts to wind down.
