Veteran Leadership

Plenty of guys on the current Nationals roster have a wealth of major league experience under their belts. Look at Doug Fister, Gio Gonzalez, Max Scherzer, Jordan Zimmerman, Jonathan Papelbon, Jayson Werth and Yunel Escobar to name a handful. Those are all guys who can put the team on their backs and run.

  • Not often do you see a team with the perfect mixture of youth and veteran leadership, but this is it. While it may seem like Bryce Harper has been in the league for 10 years now, he’s still in his early-20s and already a vocal leader.

Fister, Papelbon and Scherzer are all veterans who have been around the league and know what it takes to win a World Series. Gonzalez and Zimmerman have both been staples in the rotation for quite some time and continuity is key.

There’s absolutely no shortage of leadership on this team when you look up and down the roster. Some of it, like Harper, might not exactly be considered “veteran,” but when playoffs roll around this roster is scary with the amount of leadership.

Washington will go far in the postseason this year because of its willingness to put the team first and correct wrongs before it becomes too late.
