1. Packers WR Situation

While the loss of Kelvin Benjamin definitely devastates the Panthers’ receiving corps and opens the door for fantasy sleepers, he wasn’t the most significant WR lost for the year this preseason.  The Packers’ Jordy Nelson gets that “honor” after rupturing his ACL on Sunday leaving opportunity for fantasy production in one of the NFL’s top offenses.

The Packers offense led by Aaron Rodgers is a fantasy gold mine, and whoever gets Nelson’s targets will be a fantasy producer worth unearthing in your draft.  The most immediate beneficiary is Davante Adams who moves into the starting lineup opposite Randall Cobb.  Cobb was and still is a top-ten WR, but Adams jumps into WR2 territory with his increased role in the offense.  Rodgers and Head Coach Mike McCarthy have been praising Adams all offseason, so expect Adams to excel this year in his increased role.  If you haven’t drafted yet, you’ll need to move Adams way up your draft board, and if you have make sure he’s not on waiver wires.

The Packers third WR job is a bit more open with Adams’ promotion and should also be a fantasy productive spot.  Ty Montgomery is definitely in the mix and was reportedly operating as the third WR in practice.  He has the inside track on the role in his rookie year out of Stanford, and is a great late-round pick at this point.

Montgomery’s main competition for the job will come from Jeff Janis who is getting plenty of love on Twitter. Janis has big play ability, but he also has struggled with drops and may be considered too inconsistent to be a regular contributor for the Packers or your fantasy team.

Watching Adams in his new role and the battle for the third WR spot is definitely worth tuning in for in Green Bay’s Preseason Week 3 matchup against the Eagles.  That game will be entertaining on so many levels it’s as close to must-watch TV as we’ll get until the real season gets underway in Foxboro September 10.

Those are the ten things I’m watching closely this final week of the preseason. What did I miss and what do you expect to see this weekend? Let me know in the comments and tune in on Twitter @FansidedFantasy where I’ll be tweeting along with the games this weekend. Good luck this season!
