Fantasy Football: 10 things to watch Preseason Week 3
7. Alshon Jeffery
Jeffery has proven he can be an elite fantasy football WR, but he’s starting to sink down draft boards a little as he continues to battle injury and miss preseason games. This year could be huge for Jeffery who will be the team’s clear go-to option with Brandon Marshall out of town, but he’ll need to prove he’s healthy to be worth a top-10 WR draft position.
Jeffery has been day-to-day virtually the entire preseason with a calf injury, but John Fox isn’t known for his openness on injury situations. To see an example of his tendency to hide injuries, you only have to look at Jeffery’s fellow-WR Kevin White. The Bears said he didn’t have a stress fracture and was dealing with “shin splints” one day and the next day he did have a stress fracture, needed surgery, and was possibly going to miss the season.
Fantasy owners might be a little hesitant to trust Chicago’s injury info after that, and Jeffery’s absence in all the Bears’ preseason games isn’t encouraging. However, there doesn’t seem to be any concerns at this point that Jeffery will miss week one. If he does play week 1, he’ll be a great option and could easily grow into ta top-five WR if he gets the looks from Jay Cutler like Brandon Marshall did for so many years.
There has been no official word if Jeffery will suit up in Preseason week 3 as the Bears visit the Bengals, but if he does play it will be important to how healthy he is and if there is any rust from his layoff. Even if he doesn’t play, Jeffery is still worth taking early in your fantasy football draft, but his status and his health are key things to watch this weekend.
