7. Jay Bruce-OF-Cincinnati Reds: Both the Reds and Brewers have had disappointing seasons and have sunk to the bottom of the NL Central.  This weekend, the teams meet in Milwaukee where the Brew Crew took the opener 5-0 last night.  Tonight as they try to make it two in a row, Milwaukee sends Matt Garza to the mound.  Jay Bruce has hit Garza well in the past and comes into tonight 9-27 (.333) against him in his career including three doubles, a pair of home runs, and six RBI.

6. Pedro Alvarez-1B-Pittsburgh Pirates: At the other end of the NL Central, the Pirates and Cubs are trying to chase down the Cardinals.  Pittsburgh is playing a weekend set at Coors Field, so be sure to check out the Pirates lineup as they play in the rarified air in Denver.  Based on batter vs pitcher matchup, Pedro Alvarez is one player to check for since he is 4-8 (.500) with a double and three RBI against Colorado’s scheduled starter Chris Rusin.  Alvarez is hitting over .300 against Lefties on the season, so don’t be scared off by the lefty-lefty matchup as long as Alvarez gets another start tonight.

5. Todd Frazier-3B-Cincinnati Reds: Joining his teammate Jay Bruce in our top ten, Todd Frazier is a good play against Garza tonight as well.  In his career, Frazier is 5-17 (.294) against the Milwaukee veteran with three of those five hits being home runs.

4. Buster Posey-C-San Francisco Giants: In one of the three afternoon games, the Giants host the red-hot Cardinals after taking game one of the series last night in walk-off fashion.  This afternoon they’ll face Lance Lynn, and if Buster Posey is in the lineup he’s definitely worth a look.  Posey is 4-8 (.500) with a homer and four RBI against Lynn in their previous meetings, so unless Posey is given the day off he’ll be the best option eligible at catcher based on his batter vs pitcher history.
