Robert Griffin III: Five potential trade destinations
By Dani Bostick
The Houston Texans need a quarterback. Sure, they have Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallet, who suffered a torn pectoral last season, but it has been a while since they had an accurate, effective quarterback at the helm. The Matt Schaub years were lean outside of the 2010 and 2012 seasons when he tallied over 4,000 yards each of those years. Ryan Fitzpatrick’s performance in 2014 was also rather dismal. He finished the season with 2,483 yards. The Texans need help at quarterback.
If what coach Bill O’Brien says is true, the situation is indeed desperate. Last week, he suggested it was a tough battle between Hoyer and Ryan. “It’s an even battle,” he said via the team’s website. Not a great spot to be in. It seems the Texans have settled on Hoyer who at 29 years old has jumped around the league, spending time with the New England patriots, Arizona Cardinals, and the Cleveland Browns where last year he threw for a respectable 3,326 yards. Still, Griffin could be a more attractive choice than Hoyer, and he would certainly be playing with a chip on his shoulder.
Additionally, Griffin has connections to the great state of Texas, having played some of the best football of his life at Baylor University in Waco. He also went to high school in Copperas Cove, Tx. A potential downside to the Texans is a tenuous offensive line. The defense, though, can make huge plays, so the weight of the team would not rest entirely on Griffin.
