You are in a rough spot when you have three serious contenders for the starting position. For now, EJ Manuel, Tyrod Taylor, and Matt Cassel all have a legitimate shot at the starting job, with Matt Simms also looking prodigious against the Steelers defense, which isn’t saying much.

Does he need a controversial veteran on his team? He would certainly be open to it, but it isn’t clear he needs it. Ryan has put a very positive spin on his current quarterback competition, saying via ESPN, “This is the ideal situation we had talked about. This is exactly what I wanted, where all three guys played to their abilities. That’s all I was hoping for. I had confidence in all three of them and they did a tremendous job.”

Head coach Rex Ryan doesn’t shy away from bold moves. He recently signed linebacker IK Enemkpali even after he broke his former team’s starting quarterback’s jaw in a locker room skirmish. Apparently the guy is a serial puncher, and Ryan has no issues with that at all. The bigger problem here could be that Ryan might be satisfied with the contenders he has. (Or is that just rhetoric?)

The Bills might be an attractive destination since they are an AFC team. It could be a rather uncomfortable situation to send Griffin to a team like the Eagles whom the Redskins would have to play and risk losing to twice a year.
