Jaelen Strong-Houston Texans

The Texans passing game is still very much a work in progress, and after a preseason battle Coach Bill O’Brien named Brian Hoyer as the starter.  Hoyer will have some decent weapons to work with including rookie Jaelen Strong who was drafted with the 70th overall pick in last year’s draft coming out of Arizona State.

Strong suffered a hamstring injury early in OTAs which didn’t help his progress, but he has steadily been growing into a role in the Texans attack.  He is definitely behind DeAndre Hopkins and Cecil Shorts at this point, and is battling for the third-WR spot with veteran Nate Washington.

Through three preseason games, Strong has a pair of touchdowns on seven catches for 55 yards although most of that has come with the second offensive unit.  He did get some time with the Brian Hoyer-led group on Sunday Night (Preseason week 3) which is an encouraging sign that he is progressing and climbing the depth chart.

Drafting Strong at this point is a depth move that could pay off later in the season, but he won’t be ready to be a fantasy football starter in week 1 barring injury.  Strong is going outside the top 200 in most drafts at this point and is the 61st WR in ADP.  If your league has deep rosters, grabbing Strong as a late round WR to stash is a savvy move that could pay off if he continues to progress and earns time on the field with the Texans starting offense.
