Fantasy football: Top 10 late round WR to target
Danny Amendola-New England Patriots
Amendola’s 80-yard touchdown reception from Julian Edelman in last year’s playoff definitely took the sting out of his mostly disappointing two years in New England. Amendola also hauled in a touchdown as part of his five-catch, 34-yard performance in the Super Bowl. New England restructured his deal this offseason, and he’s back with the team as they try to defend their title this season.
Amendola has been in camp and working with both Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo throughout the preseason, and he’s been one of the team’s best healthy receivers with both Julian Edelman and Brandon LaFell sidelined. LaFell looks likely to miss the first six weeks of the season as he heads to the reserve/PUP list which would leave more targets for newcomer Reggie Wayne as well as Danny Amendola and any other WR who can earn playing time.
Since teams will focus on Edelman and Gronk, there could be some openings for Amendola to emerge as a solid sleeper especially early in the season. There are some huge questions in the New England offense besides just “Will Tom Brady be under center Week 1?” As a result of the uncertainty, Amendola is going underrated in most formats as the 84th receiver off the board and the 347th pick overall. That means in most leagues he’s on waiver wires to start the season.
While Amendola’s role is far from certain, he looks like he’ll be on the field quite a bit in a proven offense which gives him enough upside to be a late round WR especially in PPR leagues.
