 Markus Wheaton-Pittsburgh Steelers

Markus Wheaton’s draft stock is on the rise, but he’s still going just outside the top 50 WR taken in most fantasy football drafts making him a late round WR option for many owners.  Wheaton was a hot sleeper pick last year who disappointed.  Maybe some owners are afraid of getting burned twice by Wheaton, and that fact is also keeping his draft stock low.

Wheaton entered training camp in a battle for the starting WR spot across from Antonio Brown, but his main competition was Martavis Bryant who has been suspended for the first four games of the season.  With Bryant out, Wheaton will have a chance to establish himself in the first few games.  The local media in Pittsburgh and the Steelers’ players have been hyping Wheaton as a breakout candidate all offseason, and with a clear patch to catches they could be on to something.

Wheaton only played two series in the Steelers’ Preseason Week 3 game against the Bills catching one pass for 20 yards.  Pittsburgh will throw the ball a ton, though, so check out Wheaton if you want a sleeper who could definitely blow up early (think against New England’s iffy secondary week 1).
