The good news for owners who are checking out Coleman as a late round WR is that he has played ahead of Marques Colston throughout the preseason and could be the starting WR across from Brandin Cooks to open the season. Right now, Colston is going as the 42nd receiver drafted while you can get Coleman outside the top 200 players drafted as the 68th receiver.

Coleman hasn’t put up eye-popping numbers this preseason, though, which has kept his draft stock low despite his promising role. He only caught one pass in the all-important week 3 and was held catchless in the first two preseason games. However, it’s important to remember that Drew Brees has played extremely limited plays, and that Sean Payton coaches preseason differently than many other coaches.

Just a few weeks ago, Payton identified Coleman as the player who has impressed him most this preseason.  Coleman has the size to be a weapon in a Saints offense that will throw the ball plenty despite offloading Jimmy Graham, Pierre Thomas, and Kenny Stills this offseason.

Coleman is a high-risk pick, since he has never proved he can produce at the NFL level, but he has huge upside based on his position in the Saints pass-happy offense.  If Coleman is the teams second or third option in the passing game, he could be a late round WR pick that pays off.
