Chicago White Sox

It was another lost season for the Chicago White Sox, who are not only handcuffed by playing in one of baseball’s best divisions, they also swung and missed on a couple of offseason moves that didn’t pan out. That means the team will take a deep look at itself in September, hoping to have a clearer picture of where they are for 2016 before making another slew of moves in the offseason.

Chief among those tasks is evaluating the rotation. With Jeff Samardzija expected to leave town via free agency, Chicago missed a good opportunity to deal him for some needed prospects. Now, they’ll need to determine who they may have to step into his spot in the rotation. While they would optimally sign an ace this winter, Chicago also needs to look at what prospects can make the jump.

Chief among those who could get a look would be right-hander Erik Johnson. He’s been somewhat inconsistent in two previous call-ups, posting a 4.73 and 4.90 FIP between 2013 and 2014. However, he’s been outstanding in 2015 at Triple-A, owning a 11-8 record with a 2.37 ERA and a 9.2 K/9 mark in 132.2 innings of work.

Infield could be another interesting area to build up. Obviously, the Sox have gotten some inconsistent play from their infield again in 2015, and giving a look at the future couldn’t hurt. Infielder Micah Johnson is ensured a call-up, as he’s already on the 40-man, but it’ll be interesting to see if top prospect Tim Anderson. Anderson has been huge at Double-A Birmingham, slashing .312/.350/.429 with five home runs and 46 RBI for the Barons.
