Minnesota Twins

Will they or won’t they? That seems to be a two-headed question for the Minnesota Twins heading into September.

After flirting for the division title early, Minnesota has faded but still sits just a game back for the Wild Card, giving them a realistic shot. That makes the first head of that question, “Will they or won’t they make the playoffs?”.

The second half of that revolves around top prospect Jose Berrios, who has a combined 13-5 record with a 2.90 ERA and a 9.5 K/9 ratio between Double and Triple-A. For the time being, that appears to be a resounding no, as Berrios wasn’t among the initial call-ups from Rochester. However, if the Twins continue to fade, there is still a possibility that they recall the phenom for some big league action.

Outside of Berrios, the Twins are playing it safe and sticking to the 40-man roster. They’ve already extended recalls to first baseman Kenny Vargas, relievers A.J. Achter and Michael Tonkin, catcher Eric Fryer and shortstop Danny Santana.

More could still come depending on what happens in the next few weeks, but it appears as though the Twins don’t want to upset the mix too much down the stretch.
