High Priced Wide Receivers

Julio Jones-Atlanta Falcons (9,000): Jones is the most expensive WR play in almost every format for a good reason.  Opposing wide receivers had a field day against the Eagles pass defense last year, and I expect Julio Jones to keep that trend going in what I think will be shootout in the early Monday Night Football game. Jones enters the season healthy while Roddy White has had elbow issues on the other side of the field.  Look for Matt Ryan to throw plenty of balls Jones’ way on Monday night, and I expect a monster start to his season in this matchup.

Demaryius Thomas (8,800): Thomas and Denver’s starting offense haven’t looked great this preseason, but all that doesn’t matter much when they take the field against the Ravens in Denver on Sunday. When Thomas last faced the Ravens in the 2013 season opener he had five catches for 161 yards and a pair of touchdowns. While Thomas didn’t take on the Baltimore secondary last season, the Ravens’ did allow more fantasy points to opposing wide receivers than any other team in the league which sets up well for Thomas to go crazy on Sunday.

Dez Bryant (8,700): Bryant always comes to play against the Giants posting a pair of touchdowns on his 16 catches for 237 yards in their two meetings last year. He’s practicing in full this week despite seeing limited time this preseason, and he should be ready to go for Dallas’s Sunday Night game against their NFC East rival.  Bryant could get more work this year since the Cowboys may have to throw the ball more due to their questionable running back situation, so look for him to explode on Sunday Night in primetime where he always seems to bring his A-game.

Randall Cobb (8,400): Cobb looks to be ready for a huge season since he’ll clearly be Aaron Rodgers top receiving threat after a catastrophic injury to Jordy Nelson in preseason.  Cobb himself is dealing with an injury, but he has returned to practice and appears on track to play Sunday against Chicago.  Last season, Cobb caught three touchdowns in his two games against the Bears totaling 185 yards on his 11 catches. As long as he’s healthy, Cobb should get lots of work on Sunday at Soldier Field.  Double check his practice reports leading up to gametime, but if he gets the all clear to play as expected, he’ll be a nice option against Da Bears.
