Going from the World Series runner-up in Kansas City to the bottom-dwelling Oakland Athletics wasn’t necessarily what Billy Butler had in mind when he signed with Oakland this offseason. Rather, the man known as “Country Breakfast” may instead have been focused on Oakland’s previous success in getting the most out of hitters of his pedigree.

  • To be fair, the Athletics weren’t considered a bottom-dweller when they got Butler, but they have underperformed all season long, leading to a last place standing in the AL West.

The 29-year-old designated hitter has been nothing short of a disappointment for the Athletics who believed he would help the offense tremendously when they acquired him.

For a guy who has been hitting around .300 with about 15 homers and 80 RBI for his career, the 2015 season has not been very kind to him. Butler is hitting a measly .254 with just 10 home runs and 51 RBI with just a month left in the season.

Oakland isn’t going to the postseason this year, so there won’t be a chance to redeem himself until 2016, but who knows if he will stay with the Athletics through the winter.

Butler’s 2014 season was a bit of a red flag for years to come as it was his worst season in a while, but the 2015 campaign definitely takes the cake.

    Better luck next year, Billy.
