Chris Johnson-RB-Arizona Cardinals (11.2%)

Chris Johnson is the top pickup from the fantasy football waiver wire for teams in need of a running back especially if you need some production in the next week or two.  While Johnson’s long-term upside may not be quite as high as some of the other available options, he is the only back on the fantasy football waiver wire who is expected to start in week 2.

Johnson will get the starting call at least for one week as Andre Ellington recovers from a PCL injury.  The injury isn’t expected to cost him any extended time, but he most likely won’t be ready for this week’s game against the Bears leaving Johnson & Johnson (Chris and David) to carry the load in the Cardinals’ backfield.

Even though David Johnson had the flashy long touchdown on a reception, it was veteran Chris Johnson all the rushing work after Ellington departed in week 1. Chris Johnson only managed 37 yards on his ten carries and failed to catch his one target, but he’ll be the Johnson who gets the biggest workload on Sunday.  David Johnson is a good stash for the future, but Chris Johnson is the flex option you want for week 2.

The Bears’ defense was gauged by Aaron Rodgers in week 1, but they also struggled against Eddie Lacy who had a solid game. At this point, there is room for Chris Johnson as a short-term fantasy fill-in for as long as he starts for Arizona. He probably doesn’t have enough left in the tank to be a long-term solution for your fantasy team or the Cardinals, so evaluate exactly what you need at RB if you plan on placing a claim on the player formerly known as CJ2K.
