Quarterback Sleepers Week 1

Carson Palmer (FD-7,800, DK-6,700): Palmer is outside the top 12 QB’s in price on both daily league sites and still available in over 30% of ESPN leagues.  As long as he’s healthy, Palmer is a great play in coach Bruce Arians offense, and he showed us in week 1 that he’s fully recovered from last year’s ACL injury.  He threw for three touchdowns and 307 yards against the Saints last week and even added 14 yards on the ground.  He was the second-highest scoring quarterback of the week in ESPN standard scoring.  With Andre Ellington out this week, Arizona will take on the Bears this afternoon.  It’s a very nice matchup for Palmer against a Chicago secondary that was carved up by Aaron Rodgers in week 1.  I think Palmer is headed toward his second week as a top-ten performer making him a good value at his price.

Teddy Bridgewater-Minnesota Vikings (FD-7,000, DK-6,400): It was a week 1 to forget for Teddy Bridgewater and the Vikings who only managed three points in their Monday Night Football loss to the 49ers.  Bridgewater did complete 23 of his 32 passes for 231 yards but didn’t have any touchdowns and threw a pick.  He’s a good bounce back candidate this week, though, as he and the Vikings return home to take on the Lions.  Detroit’s defense was crushed last week by Philip Rivers who threw for over 400 yards and led the Chargers back from a huge deficit to win the opener.  Bridgewater won’t be heavily owned after last week’s struggles, but I think you’ll be getting value as he takes on a much more beatable defense this week. He still has all the potential and the weapons that everyone loved so much before his week 1 struggles, and I think he’s poised for a bounce back performance.

Nick Foles-St. Louis Rams (FD-6,500, DK-5,500): In his first start with the Rams, Foles helped St. Louis get a nice win against their division-rival Seahawks in a thrilling overtime win.  What made the Rams’ week 1 success so remarkable was the weapons Foles did not have due to injury.  Both Todd Gurley and Tre Mason (the team’s top two running backs) joined Brian Quick (the team’s top receiver) on the sidelines.  Foles still managed to throw for 297 yards and a touchdown while adding 11 yards on the ground along with a second score.  This week, he’ll look to improve to 2-0 when he takes the Rams on the road to face the Redskins.  Foles crushed Washington last year throwing for 325 yards and three touchdowns against them when he was with the Eagles.  He’s expected to get Tre Mason back from injury and we may even see a little bit of first-round draft pick Todd Gurley in the backfield. I think the extra weapons in the backfield will only help Foles put up another very productive week at a very affordable price.

Week 1 Picks: Sam Bradford, Alex Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick
