Kansas City Royals pitcher Danny Duffy wore an amazing bear costume during postgame interviews after the Royals clinched the American League Central.

The Kansas City Royals became the first Major League Baseball team to formally clinch a division, and the third to clinch a playoff spot, on Thursday night. As has become common place, hijinks ensued.

But no one was expected a bear suit.

That’s precisely what Royals pitcher Danny Duffy was banking on when he took the field after the Royals clinched their first division title since 1985, beating the Seattle Mariners 10-4 and watching the Minnesota Twins fall to the Cleveland Indians 6-3.

Perhaps it’s an idiom of sort, like “it’s been a bear of a season” or “we simply had to bear through it and bring this pennant home.” Regardless, Duffy has made it a point to don the bearskin whenever his team reaches postseason play, including this altogether creepy photobomb last October.

Royals fans are hoping to see plenty more of the Duff-Bear as the Royals look to return to the World Series in 2015. Duffy, who went 7-8 with a 4.22 ERA, a 4.53 FIP, and a 6.5 K/9 ratio across 25 appearances (24 starts), will be doing his part as part of the Kansas City bullpen during the postseason. Those innings could become important with Royals closer Greg Holland done for the season with a UCL tear.

What would be absolutely precious is if Duffy were allowed to walk in from the bullpen wearing the bear suit. Talk about intimidation!

Or as Danny Duffy would put it, “Fur sure.”
