The Rays and Royals game today, July 14, had to be postponed because of bad weather in Kansas City, delaying the start of the second half of the season.

With the All-Star break complete, the Rays and Royals were ready to get the season going again on Friday night.

The weather in Missouri had other ideas.

An ominous-looking thunderstorm rolled towards Kauffman Stadium, spoiling the fun of Friday night baseball for the two teams.

Is the Rays-Royals game today postponed?

Yes, unfortunately, Friday’s return to action for the Rays and Royals has been officially postponed.

The teams will now play a doubleheader on Saturday, July 15 with Game 1 beginning at 1:10 p.m. CT and Game 2 following at 6:10 p.m. CT.

The team announced that tickets for Friday’s game would be honored for Game 1 of the doubleheader on Saturday.

Rays-Royals weather update: Game 1 postponed to Saturday

The grounds crew had the tarp on well before the game was scheduled to begin as a severe thunderstorm approached the stadium.

Given the forecast, the Royals opted to postpone the game instead of trying to get it played on Friday night under those conditions.

The Rays begin the second half of the season in first place in the NL East. With the second-best record in baseball through the first half of the year, 58-35, Tampa Bay hopes to keep the good times rolling.

It’s a different story for the Royals. They have the second-worst record in baseball, 26-65, and will be looking for any sort of improvement as the summer steams forward with them firmly at the bottom of the NL Central.

With Friday’s game postponed, both sets of fans will have to wait for the next stage of their season to begin. Hopefully there are no further weather issues on Saturday.
