Serena Williams has pulled out of two tournaments, effectively ending her 2015 season.

According to a report from the Associated Press, tennis superstar Serena Williams will withdraw from the WTA Finals and the China Open. That basically brings to an end her historic 2015 run in tennis.

Williams cited injuries she was dealing with as the reason for pulling out according to the China Open website.

“It’s no secret I’ve played injured most of the year — whether it was my elbow, my knee, or, in the final moments after a certain match in Flushing, my heart,” Williams said.

“This is a very difficult decision, but one ultimately made because of the love of the game,” she said.

Williams started the season winning three major tournaments, entering the United States open in September looking to complete the calendar year Grand Slam. Williams lost to unseeded Roberta Vinci in the U.S. Open semifinals.

You’d have to assume that aside from any phyiscal ailments, there is a certain amount of exhaustion emotionally from a heartbreaking loss during a year loaded with success. That had to take a considerable amount of wind out of her sails, and she suggested that in her statement.

Not to mention the taxing her body took going deep into so many tournaments and playing for so many rounds.

It looks like we won’t see Serena Williams return to action until 2016, and fans will be hoping for another run like her 2015 campagin. Her success caused the women’s final of the U.S. Open, which she didn’t reach, to sell out before the men’s final.
