Losers: UCLA Bruins (No. 20; Down From No. 7)

Even before the season started, the UCLA Bruins were a hot dark horse pick among many to not only win the Pac-12, but head off to the College Football Playoff. Through four weeks of the season with the way they played, especially freshman quarterback Josh Rosen, it looked like those people might be proven correct. The AP voters were even smitten with this group, throwing them in the No. 7 spot last week.

Then, Saturday night happened.

UCLA welcomed in a 2-2 Arizona State team to the Rose Bowl that had already proven to not be that good, and when all was said and done, the Sun Devils came away with a somewhat convincing 38-23 win. The wheels came off for the Bruins in this one and this was a loss that they could not eat, plain and simple. Starting off Pac-12 South play like this was not the way to show everyone that you’re a playoff contender.

For this sin, the voters made them pay. While they could have been given the benefit of the doubt, they were dropped 13 spots to No. 20.

It’s still pretty early, but this UCLA team needs to shake this off quickly and start showing everyone they’re worthy of working their way back into the elite team fold.
