Fantasy football week 5 recap: Studs, duds, and sleepers
RB Sleepers
Doug Martin-Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Martin leads our RB sleepers for the second week in a row after putting up big numbers in the Bucs’ win over Jacksonville. Martin finished with 123 yards on the ground on 24 carries, and he was the only non-QB with three touchdowns as he added a third score as part of his three catches for 35 yards. Tampa heads into their bye week with some momentum after a big win, and he is worth watching after back-t0-back 100-yard weeks.
Thomas Rawls-Seattle Seahawks: The Seahawks weren’t able to close out Cincinnati for a big road win, but Thomas Rawls definitely showed he can be part of the team’s plan going forward if Marshawn Lynch continues to struggle with injury or eventually leaves as a free agent or retires. Rawls ripped off 169 yards on his 23 carries rushing for a 69-yard touchdown. He’s a great play if Lynch continues to be sidelined.
Ryan Mathews-Philadelphia Eagles: Mathews has forced his way into the Phily offense and helped them to their best game of the season against New Orleans in week 5. Mathews ran for 73 yards and a touchdown on eight carries and added 23 yards on his three catches. His touches could be inconsistent with DeMarco Murray and Darren Sproles around, but Mathews definitely has the potential to produce when he’s involved in Chip Kelly’s offense.
Todd Gurley-St. Louis Rams: Gurley posted his second impressive stat line in a row this week as he battered he Packers for 159 yards on 30 carries. He still hasn’t found the end zone in the NFL, but it’s clear that coach Jeff Fisher is ready to make him the workhorse of the offense and use him as the team’s every down back after their bye week in week 6. Gurley is going to be a fantasy stud the rest of the season and beyond, so if you drafted him and waiting enjoy the benefits of your patience as he tears up the opposition going forward.
