New York Giants (-3.5) over Dallas Cowboys

I guess the public believes in… Matt Cassel?

We picked against the Giants last week with great success and, to be frank, New York looked awful in their loss to Philly. Still, there is zero indication that Dallas can produce a respectable passing game given their lack of weapons, and even if Cassel is a small step up from Brandon Weeden, this number is two or three points short in my view. More than 60% of the action is on the Cowboys in the early going, which has allowed us to grab a short number, but I would take this thing immediately in order to avoid the inevitable movement in the line as kick-off approaches. The Giants are just better than the Cowboys right now, and you shouldn’t let last week’s result color that point of view.

Philadelphia Eagles (+3) over Carolina Panthers

This line stinks to high heaven.

Carolina was wildly impressive in the fourth quarter during a road win in Seattle last week, and I was shocked to see the line sitting at only a field goal. In a situation where it seems painfully obvious to take one side, Vegas is begging you to do so, and being the contrarian that I am, that means I’m going the other way with Philadelphia on the road. Believe me, I understand if you don’t want to take the Eagles catching only a field goal against an undefeated Panthers team, and you can feel free to fade me in this spot. This is a pure “smell test” pick, but when Vegas asks you to do something, never do it. Take the dog if you’re playing this one.
