Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Top 10 Pickups for Week 8
James Starks-RB-Green Bay Packers (45.3%)
Another player coming off a bye with plenty of upside if you can grab him is James Starks. Starks began the season as the backup and handcuff to Eddie Lacy, but with Lacy’s struggles and injury Starks could be ready to emerge as a weekly option off the fantasy football waiver wire.
Before Green Bay’s bye, Starks had a huge two-touchdown game against the Chargers running for 112 yards and a touchdown on ten carries while adding a five-yard touchdown catch as well. His number of touches has been all over the place, so his production has been uneven so far this year. The Packers’ offense is effective enough to get him work, though, so he’s worth picking up to see how the workload balance shakes out.
If you own Eddie Lacy, Starks is a must-add as an insurance policy in case he totally takes over the job. While I don’t think that’s the most likely scenario, Lacy owners need to protect themselves just in case. How he and Lacy share the workload will determine his fantasy value the rest of the season, so grab and stash Starks and see how coach Mike McCarthy divides the work this week against the Broncos.
