When the initial rankings were released last Tuesday, some were shocked that Ohio State was not the No. 1 team, a position that they have held in the polls the entire season. However, the fact of the matter is that they have not looked all that impressive in their wins this season, so much like Florida State last year as they looked to defend their title, the committee will not give them a ton of love.

Will Ohio State be kicked out of the top four if they continue to win, even if it’s ugly? No, but they’re not going to be No. 1, that’s for sure. But whether it’s No. 1 or No. 4, as we saw last season, it doesn’t matter to the Buckeyes in this playoff format.

Their win over Minnesota on Saturday night was a little more impressive than some of the others they’ve collected this season. Still, they won’t be moving an inch when it comes to the second batch of rankings on Tuesday night.

Some Buckeyes fans might be worrying about losing their spot in the group here, but that’s not going to happen. If anything, they may stay in this No. 3 spot the rest of the way through November, barring anything crazy happening.
