5. Baltimore Orioles

The Baltimore Orioles enter this offseason with a need in left field. While Cespedes isn’t a revelation with his glove, he certainly is more than adequate and better than any other immediate option in that regard. However, the bulk of Cespedes’ potential value doesn’t come from the fact that he fills a positional hole in Baltimore, but rather from the fact that he gives them a power-hitter that can also hit for average.

There’s a chance that Chris Davis, Matt Wieters, and Steve Pearce all part ways with the Orioles this offseason as they all enter free agency. While a player like Davis might be a priority for Baltimore, they are going to be losing at least a couple of big bats to free agency. Bringing in a player like Cespedes would address that issue and possibly even improve their overall prowess at the plate.

However, things aren’t exactly cut-and-dry when it comes to the possibility of Cespedes landing in Baltimore. Despite the talent that they have in the clubhouse and some of the players that have grown within the Orioles organization, they’re a franchise notorious for not handing out excessive contracts.

Considering that the predominant notion is that Cespedes is going to be looking for a six-year deal that will pay him north of $100 million, which could dissuade the Orioles from pursuing him. However, if there was ever a time that the organization should and would make that kind of signing, Cespedes might be the player to do it with.
