5 NFL teams on upset alert in Week 11
4. Denver Broncos
Seeing the Denver Broncos vs. Chicago Bears matchup through the eyes of looking for possible upsets feels like shooting fish in a barrel. Peyton Manning is out of commission due to injuries coming into this game and Brock Osweiler will be getting the start. That’s the same Osweiler who has seen possibly the least amount of work of any backup in the NFL over his first few seasons in the league with Denver and the same quarterback that we truly don’t know what to expect from. All of that seems like a recipe for the Broncos to possibly suffer their third loss of the season.
The counter to any argument about Osweiler possibly costing the Broncos this game is their defense. While their defense has been fantastic, they’ve also been banged up in recent weeks. Moreover, the Bears offense has been firing on all cylinders as of late and actually seems like a unit that is matchup-proof under the direction of offensive coordinator Adam Gase, especially with the looming return of their star running back in Matt Forte.
Again, Osweiler makes this pick feel almost unfair because he’s such an unknown commodity in Denver and there’s at least a foreseeable scenario where he is absolutely terrible, even against a proven-to-be-terrible Bears defense. However, the Broncos are still a 7-2 team going on the road to play a 4-5 team. If the Bears are able to get the win at home over a team with a far superior record, even if Osweiler is starting, it would be a definite upset.
