2. Francis Owusu makes catch behind the defender’s back (10/15)

When you think of the Stanford Cardinal and incredible plays, the first name that problem comes to mind is their Heisman Trophy candidate running back and return man in Christian McCaffrey. However, it was receiver Francis Owusu that actually made one of the two most impressive plays of the entire season in mid-October as the Cardinal took on one of their Pac-12 rivals in the UCLA Bruins.

The play started out crazy enough for the Cardinal before a pass was ever thrown. They lined up in the wildcat formation with McCaffrey at quarterback and Kevin Hogan (their actual quarterback) split out at wide receiver. Stanford then rand a double reverse that ultimately got the ball back in Hogan’s hands standing in the pocket. He then let loose a deep throw to the end zone toward Owusu. It was a great deep ball from Hogan, but the play Owusu made was even better.

Owusu had his coverage beat in the middle of the end zone, but the UCLA defensive back turned and played the man and basically just ran at the Cardinal receiver trying to tackle him and just give up the 15-yard penalty. As he was running into Owusu, though, the Stanford pass-catcher reached under the arms and around the back of the defensive back and made the catch behind his back. It was surreal and, though it may not be the best catch of its kind thanks to Tyrone Prothro a decade ago, it was without question one of the best plays of 2015.
