High Salary D

P.K. Subban-Montreal Canadiens ($6,200): Subban is the top defenseman for the Canadiens and is enjoying a very productive season in which he’s scored one goal and has 20 assists. His fantasy value comes from his assists and high number of shots. He’s struggled as of late with just one point in the last five games, but he’s too talented to be kept off the scoresheet for too long. Roll with Subban tonight.

Brent Burns-San Jose Sharks ($7,800): San Jose gets another great fantasy matchup tonight against the Edmonton Oilers and that means yet another opportunity for Burns. He still has a very high price tag, but it’s justified. He has 10 goals and 12 assists and has eight points in his last eight games. Even though pick up a goal or an assist on Tuesday night he still got four fantasy points for owners thanks to his seven shots on goal. Burns isn’t afraid to shoot the puck and that’s a quality that fits very well with fantasy hockey. You will need to find value elsewhere if you want to afford Burns, but it’s a move that will be worth the price.

High Value D

Alexander Edler-Vancouver Canucks ($4,900) Edler is Vancouver’s top defenseman and he’s also proven to be very useful in fantasy terms. He’s recorded at least four fantasy points in six of his last nine games and that kind of production from a defenseman is very valuable to a fantasy team, especially at Edler’s price. The Rangers will be tough tonight, but Edler is worth taking a chance on.

Ryan McDonagh-New York Rangers ($4,800): New York’s captain has turned into a solid blueliner and sees valuable time on the power play. His stats don’t jump off the page, but he has four goals with nine assists and averages nearly three fantasy points per contest. He had a big game Sunday against Ottawa, recording a goal and two assists en route to a whopping nine fantasy points. You can’t expect that sort of production all the time from McDonagh, but the ability is there. For his price and potential, you could do worse tonight.

Kevan Miller-Boston Bruins ($3,200): Miller was placed on inured reserve on November 22 after suffering a concussion. He has only been back on the ice for two games, but he’s certainly made the most of it. He picked up an assist in his first game back on Saturday and added a goal Monday. Right now his salary is a steal and certainly worth taking a shot on. Spending such a low amount on a defenseman who’s hot will free up big space to go after some high-priced offensive players. Take Miller tonight and hope his streak continues.
