P- Yovani Gallardo

Since Johnny Cueto signed, it appears that the market for Gallardo is starting to heat up.

SB Nation’s Chris Cotillo reported that the Royals, Astros and Orioles all have interest in the 29 year old right handed hurler.

Gallardo went 13-11 with a 3.42 ERA. In 184.1 innings, he only struck out 121 batters and he gave up 193 hits.

Gallardo’s K/9 rate is dropping faster than the price of oil over the last few seasons. In 2012, it was nine per nine innings. This past season? A little under six.

His velocity actually increased in 2014 per Fangraphs, but then declined again last season. All three of these teams could use him though.

The Royals just lost Johnny Cueto in free agency. Jason Vargas is recovering from Tommy John surgery. They have Yordano Ventura and Edinson Volquez. They re-signed Chris Young. They added Dillon Gee on a minor league deal but could use more.

The Orioles have Wei-Yin Chen in free agency. Their rotation now has Chris Tillman, Miguel Gonzalez, Ubaldo Jimenez and Kevin Gausman. Each have their own questions and Gallardo could be a stabilizing presence. Gallardo also hasn’t had a flyball rate over 30% in four years which helps at Camden Yards.

The Astros could use a right-handed presence in their rotation. They have AL Cy Young Award winner Dallas Keuchel and the promising Lance McCullers, but as they try and maintain their spot among the AL’s top teams, they could use another arm in the rotation to keep pace.
