Who’s the next free agent to sign?

What a time to be a free agent. I think I have an opt-out in 2018. Someone check my contract. (No I don’t? Darn okay.) Besides all the trades that have happened over the past few weeks, some big signings have gone down, in what has been an impressive free agent class. Zack Greinke, Jason Heyward, Ben Zobrist and Johnny Cueto have all signed their big free agent deals.

There’s still value out there. There’s plenty of starting pitching to be had to improve your rotation. Need an outfielder? There are some good ones available. How about a quality veteran second baseman? There’s some of that too.

While there are some certain trade candidates out there, this post isn’t about that. This is about figuring out who will be the next free agent to get his payday. Who’s going to get that contract that makes you wonder what in the world that GM was thinking.

Teams can still find a way to upgrade their team through free agency, where all it will cost you is money and maybe a draft pick, instead of giving up your prospect or two to get someone from another organization.

Teams still have money to spend as they begin to figure out their rosters. It’s still early enough in the free agency period, however, time is ticking. So who could land in a new city before Christmas? Here are five players who could be the next free agents to come off the board.
