Seventh Round: Safety Jordan Lomax, Iowa

Part of what made the Legion of Boom so spectacular was being able to get great contributors in the secondary through late round picks. Atlanta Falcons head coach will look to bolster his defense through the next few drafts, trying to find the next diamond in the rough. Perhaps Iowa’s Jordan Lomax could help the Falcons in the secondary as their seventh round pick?

Since Atlanta does not have a fifth or sixth round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, it is more crucial that normal to hit on a seventh round pick, so why not go for a player that could come in and compete at safety in 2016?

Lomax was part of the great Hawkeyes defense that played in the 2015 Big Ten Championship Game in Indianapolis. His Hawkeyes will play the Stanford Cardinal in this year’s Rose Bowl, as one of twelve teams playing in a New Year’s Six Bowl game.

Atlanta looks set with cornerback entering 2016 with three young corners in Desmond Trufant, Robert Alford, and Jalen Collins. Safety is a bigger concern as Quinn decided to move fourth corner Ricardo Allen to free safety in training camp and long-time strong safety William Moore gets injured at least once a year. Going with a safety in the seventh round from a championship caliber team in Lomax out of Iowa seems like a low-risk, high reward type of draft selection.
