Round 2. Noah Spence, DE/OLB, Eastern Kentucky

The former Ohio State defensive end has the size at 6’3″ and 260 pounds to line up with his hand in the dirt as a 4-3 defensive end, or a pass rushing outside linebacker if the new Colts regime (assuming there is one) sticks with the 3-4 system.

Spence originally looked to be one of the top prospects coming into the NFL just a season ago, but his problems with drugs caused him to be kicked out of school. He wound up in Eastern Kentucky, and seems to have his head on straight now.

Despite passing several drug tests now, the young man’s past will be heavily scrutinized, but his skill will make it hard to pass on him. The Colts take the chance here that he has turned it all around and grab a kid who has named an All-American due to his 11.5 sacks and 22.5 tackles for a loss this season.

What will go a long way in helping Spence get his NFL shot is that Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer has continued to stick behind him. He was instrumental in helping Noah get a chance at EKU, and seems as though he will continue to speak out for the pass rusher.

The Colts could wind up with two day-one starters with their first two picks here, while addressing glaring weaknesses.
