7th Round – #212 overall

Jake Coker is a flier, but the Chiefs are intent on taking a quarterback every year under Dorsey and this might be the right move. Coker has not been anything special in college with the University of Alabama, but he is a winner and has his team in the College Football Playoff. Coker did get better as his senior season went on, throwing 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

At the moment, the Chiefs have Alex Smith, Chase Daniel and Aaron Murray on the active roster. Smith is going to be the starter at least through the 2016 season but Daniel is slated a free agent and will probably be moving on after the season. Daniel has shown his worth in the past as a backup quarterback, but with Kansas City having so many free agents to sign, he will be the odd man out.

Coker could fight with Tyler Bray and Murray for the third spot on the roster, and if he can’t make the active roster, play on the practice squad. Coker does not have a huge arm but he has decent mobility within the pocket and throws a nice ball. Kansas City might swing for the fences in the seventh round with a guy like Coker instead of a safe pick with a lineman.
