Round 5: Matt Judon, DE (Grand Valley State)

If you want to talk about a potential diamond in the rough in the 2016 NFL Draft, you need look no further than Grand Valley State Lakers defensive end Matt Judon. He’s not a player that’s been on many radars considering the profile of the school that he’s played at, but he’s been a dominant pass-rusher and defensive force over the course of his college career.

As a junior, Judon recorded 19 tackles for a loss and 8.5 sacks, both impressive outings no matter what division he was playing in. However, in his senior season with the Lakers, Judon was one of the best pass-rushers in all of college football as he amassed 20 quarterback sacks in addition to 23.5 tackles for loss. He was simply a beast on the Grand Valley State defense that could get into the backfield and wreak havoc at will.

The Giants undoubtedly need to address their pass-rush on the edge early in the draft, but having another player who could potentially come in and make a difference certainly wouldn’t be the worst thing to happen to New York either. Considering what Judon has shown with the Lakers in college, he has the potential to be a steal that could very well have an impact on whichever team drafts him sooner than most fifth-round selections.
