Round 2: Tyler Boyd, Wide Receiver, Pittsburgh

The Rams could use some help at wide receiver, and Pittsburgh’s Tyler Boyd has first round talent.

Current receiver Tavon Austin is dynamic, but he is not big enough to be a stand-alone wide receiver. A receiver such as Austin would greatly benefitting from working alongside a pure route-runner and traditional receiver like Tyler Boyd.

Boyd was the most highly-recruited player out of Pennsylvania since Terelle Pryor. However, much like Pryor, he has had some off-the-field issues. He received a DUI before the season and was suspended for one month. Though, like Goff, Boyd is mentioned in some pretty good company.

He joined Larry Fitzgerald as the only players in Pitt history to have two 1,000-yard receiving seasons. As a freshman, Boyd had more than 1,100 yards and scored seven touchdowns. He bumped things up to 1,261 during his sophomore season. He has not broken 1,000 yards in this campaign, but he also missed the first game of the season due to the suspension. His speed and route-running ability are unquestionable, and just like Fitzgerald he excels at high-pointing the football.

Boyd may have some off-the-field issues, but waiting to select him in the second round could pay serious dividends for the Rams. He is clearly one of the most talented players in the draft and represents an opportunity that the Rams would be foolish to pass up.
